Our Approach

What is existential therapy?

Existential therapy is an approach to therapy that emphasizes free-will, self-determination, and the search for meaning in a person’s life. The approach stresses that each person has a unique identity that they have developed through their experience of being in the world and that this experience of being in the world comes with certain existential givens that can cause distress. These givens include mortality, isolation, meaninglessness, and freedom. The overall purpose of existential therapy is to allow clients to have a more honest, open, and comprehensive view of their life experience so that they can live the life that they enjoy.

What is logotherapy?

Logotherapy is derived from existential therapy and is equally concerned with the search for meaning that’s present in a person’s life. It is based in the idea that we are all driven by a “will to meaning,” or an inner desire to find purpose. The three core tenets are that human life has meaning, that humans want to experience the sense of meaning in life, and that humans have the capacity to experience meaning under every circumstance.

What is eclectic therapy?

Eclectic therapy is an integrative approach, which means that the therapist uses more than one theoretical approach to meet the client’s needs. Most therapists today would be considered eclectic therapists but some still identify more strongly with certain approaches as opposed to others.
